Description

The faja is an important piece of the typical Mayan woman’s outfit. The huipil (blouse) is tucked into the wrap-around corte (skirt) and then secured by a tightly wrapped length of material around the waist called a faja. Without a faja, the skirt may become unraveled or the blouse may come untucked. A faja often has a half length of regular woven cloth, with the other half highly embroidered or decorated. The plain section is wrapped around first, leaving the decorative half for the final wrap around the waist to show off the decoration. This faja features woven flowers in a repeating pattern along the entire length! It is 100″ long and 2.75″ wide. It is both the widest and longest faja I have available. NOTE: This faja is well-used, as it contains a few sections were some thread from the woven pattern are missing from the design. The belt is still usable and intact, and is desirable in the sense that the pattern runs the entire length. If you were going to re-purpose this item, it’s a good deal! I have priced it accordingly.
